Fantasy Gameplan - The Rules

By komments on Monday, 1st September 2008

Everybody needs a gameplan! Imagine what the NFL would be without extensive research that leads to complex, yet flexible, gameplans. It might resemble the preseason for goodness sake and no one wants that.

So the hosts of Fantasy Sports Group’s Fantasy Gameplan are helping you prepare yours each week of the regular season! That’s right — every Tuesday night at 7:30 ET we will be bringing you all the information you need to make your Fantasy Gameplan.

Each week we will cover the news and notes, including any injuries you need to be concerned with. We will give you players to target as free agents for the coming weeks. And we will predict Booms and Busts.

But you can get that from lots of places — what makes us special? Three things.

First we will cover all the major food groups. Standard league positions like Quarterback, Running Back … all the way down to Team Defenses. But we won’t stop there. We will also project Defensive Linemen, Linebackers and Defensive Backs for all you IDPers out there.

Next, all of our busts must be top 10 ranked players from the season to date. The first week we will use last year’s rankings but after that, it is all based on this year. And no easy picks — no predicting Michael Strahan or Brandon Marshall to bust in week one. They won’t be playing so we won’t state the obvious.

For our Booms, we make it even tougher. No Quarterback, Tight End, Place Kicker or Team Defense that is inside the top 10 can be named. For Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Linemen, Linebackers and Defensive Backs the Boom lists have to come from outside the top 20.

Finally, we are grading ourselves. Most prognosticators are quick to point out their great guesses but forget to mention how many bad choices they made. Not here. We will get graded based on how our predictions panned out.

And make no mistake — we take this very seriously. For this, our inaugural year, JC, Cliff and I will be in competition for a traveling trophy. And we want to invite our listeners or a special guest to call in with their predictions.

Each week we will tally the scores. Should the guest tally top all of us at year’s end, we will reward the top ranked guest with a trophy of their own!

So how will the scoring work. First, we will use HAFA scoring for all positions except Team Defense. For that we will turn to FanEx scoring.

The following chart will be used to dictate scoring for this contest of prognosticating genius.

So, without further ado, I give you week one’s list of players that must be used for our Busts and those that cannot be used for our Booms.
