Fantasy Gameplan - Week Three

By komments on Tuesday, 16th September 2008

You have to love people who are not afraid to go out on a limb and make predictions as to what players you should start or sit. Especially when they are forced to stay away from the obvious.

At Fantasy Sports Group our goal is to provide you with information you can use! Anyone can tell you to start Peyton Manning or LaDainian Tomlinson. It doesn’t take a genius, or even a modicum of courage, to tell you to sit a player like Jason Taylor who had — at best — a 50/50 shot of playing in week one.

We look at each position’s top 10 and make the hard calls as to who should sit or start. And we go even deeper when predicting starters at RB, WR, DL, LB or DB. Why? Because in almost every league you are in, the 20th ranked RB is still a starter. So we make our analysts dig deeper.

But going out on a limb is easy if you are not held to account for outrageous predictions. That is why we score all of our picks. And then report those scores back to you. This column will be used to bring out the best, and worst, predictions of the preceding week.

It will also list the coming week’s Booms & Busts!

Finally, it will track the cumulative scores of each of your host’s picks and those of our guests.

Week Two
Our Week Two prognosticator was Paul Greco. Paul carries many titles in the sports industry world. For one, he is part owner of Gotham Sports Media, LLC which covers the Mets and Yankees and distributes a quarterly magazine covering the past, present and future of the New York game. Paul is also RotoHog.com’s Fantasy Sports Expert where he covers the RotoHog game as well as provides weekly articles on Fantasy Baseball and Fantasy Football. Finally, what Paul might be best know for is his work at MelnickandGrecoFantasySports.com where he and Lenny Melnick provide 24/7 Fantasy Sports Support.

He is featured on Talking Baseball Live every Wednesday night at 8pm ET and Fantasy Gridion Live every Sunday morning from 10-11am ET on Blog Talk Radio’s Fantasy Sports Channel!

And while I am thinking about it, Paul is in Major League Baseball’s Rookie Reporter Showdown — how about you jump over and vote for Paul at this link.

Heading up the week was JC who came in with 52 points. His best Bust prediction was Anthony Fasano who failed to make a single catch, but he showed he was almost human when he picked Matt Forte who was still a marginal starter. His best Boom pick was Patrick Willis who rebounded nicely from a very slow start to his season. His lack of a pick for a boom defense showed even geniuses can make mistakes.

JC was followed by Greg with 41 points, Cliff with 38 and Paul with 34. Here’s hoping our Guest does better next week!

By finishing last in week two, our guests have dropped into last place. Paul is our top scoring guest though so if they can climb out of the basement they could still win a trophy! Thanks for playing Paul and right now, you are our top guest point getter. Here’s hoping your score holds up and you get to hoist a Fantasy Sports Group Prognosticator of the year trophy come season’s end.

Week Two
Our Week Two prognosticator is Ken Kellogg. If the name sounds familiar, it should. Ken is my kid brother. Though the term kid is really stretching it these days. In week one, Ken trounced me in his personal league. Then last week he called the starting of Chris Johnson over Maurice Jones-Drew. Lets see if he can keep up his record when there is a trophy on the line!

Summation
The contest is off to a strong start with 82% (59 of 72) of the Bust recommendations earning points. We are still struggling with our Boom picks where only 35% (25 of 72) earned points. For the week, our Busts were amazing — only two misses in 36 tries. That works out to 94% (34 of 36) while our Boom picks improved from week one to 39% (14 of 36). You need to listen LIVE every Tuesday night from 7:30 to 9:00 pm ET to be among the first to hear these predictions! If you miss the live show, you can still click on the link and listen to the archive. And if you like the show — leave a comment and a rating to let us know.

Or you can call in at (347) 826-9620! We LOVE taking calls on the air!
