Fantasy Gameplan - Week Four

By komments on Tuesday, 23rd September 2008

You have to love people who are not afraid to go out on a limb and make predictions as to what players you should start or sit. Especially when they are forced to stay away from the obvious.

At Fantasy Sports Group our goal is to provide you with information you can use! Anyone can tell you to start Peyton Manning or LaDainian Tomlinson. It doesn’t take a genius, or even a modicum of courage, to tell you to sit a player like Jason Taylor who had — at best — a 50/50 shot of playing in week one.

We look at each position’s top 10 and make the hard calls as to who should sit or start. And we go even deeper when predicting starters at RB, WR, DL, LB or DB. Why? Because in almost every league you are in, the 20th ranked RB is still a starter. So we make our analysts dig deeper.

But going out on a limb is easy if you are not held to account for outrageous predictions. That is why we score all of our picks. And then report those scores back to you. This column will be used to bring out the best, and worst, predictions of the preceding week.

It will also list the coming week’s Booms & Busts!

Finally, it will track the cumulative scores of each of your host’s picks and those of our guests.

Week Three
Our Week Three prognosticator was Ken Kellogg. Ken is a life-long Tigers, Lions and Pistons fan. He even claims the Redwings but that may be a bandwagon type thing. To the best of my knowledge he has never even gotten on the ice with a stick. Derek says he is better looking than me and I admit he is a better golfer. He’s my best friend and my brother — even though he beat me head up in week one and outscored me in our Booms and Busts in week 3.

Heading up the week was JC who came in with 47 points. His best Bust prediction was Ernest Graham who finished 84th amongst RBs. That’s right, JC sat a top 10 stud the week he fell out of the top 80 running backs. He didn’t miss much this week but his benching of Charles Tillman who finished at 29 points and third in his positional rankings. His best Boom pick was that of the Baltimore Ravens who topped the Defensive Team rankings in week three. He struck out on Jason Taylor, who remains a Carson favorite despite his lack of scoring this season.

JC was followed by Cliff with 39 points, Ken with 37 and Greg with 34. Ken’s score was not enough to move our guests out of the basement but it did move him into the top score of our guests and was the seventh best overall (of 12).

Though Ken finished third in week three, our guests remain in last place. Ken is our top scoring guest though so if they can climb out of the basement they could still win a trophy! Thanks for playing Ken and right now, you are our top guest point getter. Here’s hoping your score holds up and you get to hoist a Fantasy Sports Group Prognosticator of the year trophy come season’s end.

Week Four
Our Week Four prognosticator is Rick Serritella. Rick is the founder and CEO of All Access Football. His experience includes stints at USA Today and The Yes Network and as an associate producer of the NFL Now and the Mike & The Mad Dog Show. He has produced sports content for ESPN, CBS and NBC. A member of the Football Writers Association of America, Rick founded All Access Football in 2002, a media company with properties that include the College Football Insiders, the NFL Draft Bible and an Internet radio and video platform. He established College Football Insiders in 2007 with his partner Dan Mogollon, making high-quality college football news more accessible in various media formats.

Summation
With a quarter of the fantasy regular season behind us, we remain strong in our Bust recommendations. For the week, we nailed 31 of 36 recommendations (86%). While not as good as week 2, it still improved our overall Bust record from 82% in week 2 to 83% (90 of 108) after three weeks.

Picking Booms is much more difficult but we still managed to hit on 16 of 36 recommendations (44%), our best week yet. This despite missing on 12 of 16 defensive predictions. For the year, we are at 38% (41 of 108), up 3% from week two.

If you would like a shot at winning a trophy proclaiming you the prognosticator of the year, shoot us an email at staff@fantasysportsgroup.com and we will schedule you for a future show.

If you want to be able to use our Booms and Busts for your lineups, you need to listen LIVE every Tuesday night from 7:30 to 9:00 pm ET to be among the first to hear these predictions! But if you miss the live show, you can still click on the link and listen to the archived copy. And if you like the show — leave a comment and a rating to let us know.

Or you can call in at (347) 826-9620! We LOVE taking calls on the air!
